To commemorate the Oscar nominations announcement, our BA (Hons) Filmmaking students were invited by ITV London to watch the nominations live at LFA, and give their thoughts on this year's choices! We are excited to see that 'The Irishman' received 10 Oscar nominations, the visual effects worked on by Pierre D'oncieu, our Filmmaking Diploma graduate.
The students do believe that although diversity was taken into consideration for 'Parasite', the first South Korean film to be nominated for Best Picture, it was lacking in other areas, particularly in the case of Greta Gerwig ('Little Women') & Lulu Wang ('The Farewell'). One of our student's Manasseh commented that "there needs to be a realisation by the film industry, as to whether or not diversity is the future of film or if it is just a passing trend."
The BA (Hons) Filmmaking students' reactions to the Oscars was featured on ITV London News on Monday 13 January at 6pm.
