To celebrate the BAFTA nomination for 'Outstanding Debut by a British Writer, Director or Producer' for 'Retablo', we are delighted to welcome back Alvaro Delgado-Aparicio to LFA for a Q&A session with our students.
Alvaro began at LFA in 2006, where he completed the Filmmaking Certificate, in order to learn the fundamentals of filmmaking in an intense period of time. Years later, he created his first short film 'The Companion' (2012) where it competed at Sundance Festival for 'Short Film Grand Jury Prize'.
He returned in 2017 to write and direct his first feature film 'Retablo' (2017), a story set in Peru of a 14-year old boy who has aspirations of following his father's footsteps until that is suddenly haltered by a conflict with his father.
'Retablo' world premiered at the 2018 Berlinale, winning two awards: the Teddy Award and the Crystal Bear Special Jury Mention for Best Film. Since then, Retablo has won 42 awards in different international film festivals such as San Francisco, China, New York, Toronto, Vancouver, Switzerland, Sweden, Chicago, Ukraine, Bucharest, Cape Town, La Habana, Bilbao, among others.
'Retablo' was Peru’s official entry for the Oscars 2020 and the Spanish Academy Goya Awards in the 'Best International Film' Category. It has been nominated for a BAFTA in the 'Outstanding Debut by a British Writer, Director or Producer' 2020 and also received a nomination for 'Best International Film' at the Independent Spirits Awards 2020.
We are incredibly proud of Alvaro and are delighted for him to give his insight to the next generation of filmmakers.
Please note, this event is for those studying on either the BA (Hons) Filmmaking, our 1-year Filmmaking Diplomas or our 1-year Screenwriting Diplomas only. The BAFTA Awards Ceremony takes place on Sunday 2 February 2020.
